The entrance ceremony of Matsumoto Dental University (MDU) and MDU School of Dental Hygiene for this academic year was held in the lecture hall on Friday April 7th. For the first time, the ceremony was held jointly between MDU (the dental department and the Graduate School of Oral Medicine) and the School of Dental Hygiene. A total of 165 freshmen of the dental department, the graduate school, and the School of Dental Hygiene attended.
A tape cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the construction of Campus Inn, a university dormitory where freshmen can live together, was held at the entrance of Campus Inn on Thursday April 6th. About fifty people attended. Cutting the tape were the chairman of MDU's board of directors, Dr Yasushi Yagasaki, and two freshmen representatives, Mr Jun Baba and Ms Kumiko Kiga.
In the afternoon, a talk about life at Campus Inn was given to the freshmen and their parents. The manager of Campus Inn, Mr Yasuyuki Abe, introduced the eleven tutors and nurses who will support the freshmen in various ways.
A clinical trainee doctor system started in April. Orientation concerning the system was given from Thursday April 6th to Friday April 14th to 59 trainee dentists who will have clinical training at MDU hospital. On the first day, a training permission presentation ceremony was held, the training program and the medical treatment system at the university hospital were explained, and a lecture on the social insurance scheme was given in the student hall of the library building.
The CEREC 20th anniversary symposium was held in Berlin, Germany, on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th March. Attending were about 1,500 researchers from countries all over the world specialized in crown treatment using CAD/CAM, including 25 from Japan.
MDU gave three poster presentations in the science division. One of these, from a research team led by Dr Ryunosuke Kazama, an assistant in the Division of Oral Health Promotion of MDU Institute for Oral Science, won the bronze prize.
Mr Koichi Sato, president and representative director of TV Matsumoto Cablevision, presented a painting called "Plateau of spring green" on Thursday March 30th in celebration of the completion of construction of MDU's new dormitory, Campus Inn. A dense growth of skunk cabbages surrounded by green, fresh leaves in Norikura Plateau is vividly portrayed in this artwork by Keisuke Manabe, who is a member of the Issokai Administration Committee. The painting was hung behind the front counter at the entrance of Campus Inn.
Approximately 560 students from the dental department and the School of Dental Hygiene attended traffic safety lectures in the lecture hall on Thursday April 20th.
Mr Tatsuro Yamada, a community safety group manager, and Mr Takefumi Koike, a traffic section manager, both from Shiojiri Police Station, presented the lectures.
