The 38th All Japan Dental University Student Summer Sports Tournament was held from Wednesday July 26th to Saturday August 12th, organized by Nihon University School of Dentistry, in Chiba Prefecture. Students from 29 dental schools and departments all over Japan competed in 22 tournaments.
Matsumoto Dental University (MDU) will be the organizer of the next tournament. At the closing ceremony, the tournament chairman, Mr. Otake, handed the tournament flag to Prof. Morimoto, dean of MDU's dental department.
Screening to select Japan's representatives for the Student Clinician Program was held in the New Japan Dental Association Building in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo on Wednesday August 23rd. MDU's student clinician representative, third-year student, Ms. Yatomi, presented her research paper "A simple method of obtaining lingual mucosal cells for DNA extraction" in English. She researched this subject for about six months under Prof. Oh, professor of the Dental Pharmacology course.
The 11th congress of the Society of Dentistry for Child Health and Development was held on Wednesday July 26th and Thursday July 27th. The congress was organized by MDU's Pediatric Dentistry program and chaired by Prof. Miyazawa. The theme was occlusion function and maxillary joints of children. The main venue was the library building. About 80 researchers and dentists from all over Japan participated with intense debate at the seminars, symposiums and lectures.
A one-day experience program was offered to prospective students of Matsumoto Dental University School of Dental Hygiene on Friday July 28th. A total of 59 people attended, comprising high school students wishing to be dental hygienists and their parents. They participated in mock training.
MDU hospital accepted two female high school students from Shonan High School in Matsumoto on Friday July 28th as part of a one-day nurse experience program operated by Nagano Prefecture and the Nagano Nursing Association.
The students observed facilities and treatments at the hospital and did some work such as bed-making.
A special lecture, which was also FD training, was given to third-year students by guest speaker Prof. Ide, lecturer in anatomy at Tokyo Dental College. The lecture on the theme "Maxillary movements and skeletal muscle in the head and neck" included training and allowed students to easily work with three-dimensional images.
The 25th Yasushi Yagasaki Baseball Cup and the 23rd Yasushi Yagasaki Volleyball Cup were held on Thursday 17th August and Friday 18th August. All MDU faculty and staff participated and enjoyed themselves.
The 32nd summer festival called Matsumoto Bon Bon was held in the center of Matsumoto in the evening of Saturday August 5th with 288 groups of 24,600 people participating. Among these was an MDU group of about 30 people known as BONE BONE.
One of MDU's emeritus professors, Takeshi Nakamura, formerly a professor of Oral Biochemistry, passed away on Sunday August 13th at the age of 73.
