Matsumoto Dental University clinic open

 Matsumoto Dental University (MDU) opened a clinic on campus on Wednesday November 1, in advance of a new MDU hospital planned for the autumn of 2007. The clinic has departments of internal medicine and gastroenterology, and provides a high level of medical services including the prevention and treatment of eating and swallowing disorders; examination and treatment of colon, gastric and esophageal cancers using an endoscope; and treatment to relieve permanent pain.

Yasushi Yagasaki Special Award presentation ceremony

 A ceremony to present the Yasushi Yagasaki Special Award, the Yasushi Yagasaki Award and the Encouragement Award was held in the student hall of the library building on Tuesday, October 10th. Receiving the awards were 22 MDU students who achieved excellent academic results in 2005. The Dental Department's regulations concerning scholarships and support for students were significantly revised and improved in June. Revisions include clarification of the details of awards and the introduction of the top award, the Yasushi Yagasaki Special Award.

ANA training to gain trust by dealing with people appropriately

 Everybody at MDU will be trained in dealing with people. The first training session was given to lecturers and administration managers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 September in the third floor conference room in the 30th Anniversary Building.

Hebei and Shanghai, China, kindergartner dental checks restart after 4-year gap

 MDU's Pediatric Dentistry staff was at the center of a Chinese toddlers' dental health survey, the first in four years.The staff stayed in China from Sunday 8 to Sunday 15 October.The subjects of the survey were 330 kindergartners in Shanghai, and 221 in Shijiazhuang, Hebei. The survey included questionnaires completed by parents to collect data about environmental factors and oral examinations.

Dental Department day trial

 The second of this academic year's day trials took place on Saturday October 14 with seventeen attendees comprising nine prospective students and parents. They received a special lecture and mock training, and looked around the university hospital facilities and the student hall of residence, Campus Inn.

4th FD training

 The 4th FD training this academic year was held in classroom 601 of the main building at 6:00 pm on Monday September 25 on the theme of "application and use of scientific research subsidies for academic year 2007", and was attended by about 100 lecturers and staff. The number of MDU research projects subsidized and the amount of the subsidies have been increasing significantly in recent years and, based on the subsidies, MDU has been ranked as one of the top institutions that specialize in dental science. The training explained scientific research subsidies, preparation of applications, and prevention of improper use.

Ward fire evacuation drill

 About 50 dentists and staff took part in a fire evacuation drill in the wards of Matsumoto Dental University Hospital on Monday October 16. Ms. Ikuko Oguchi, senior staff nurse, and Mr. Masanori Komatsu, a business section manager, explained how to use evacuation equipment and the procedures to assist in an evacuation in case of fire. Participants practiced descending from the building and evacuating patients.
