Opening of Implant Department

 The newly opened Implant Department started offering service at Matsumoto Dental University Hospital on Thursday, February 1st. Three pieces of equipment solely for implant operations were installed in the oral surgery section on the fifth floor of the hospital. Treatment in the Implant Department is provided by the department manager, Prof. Keiso Takahashi (who is also Professor in the Division of Hard Tissue Research at the MDU Institute for Oral Science) and other dentists. The department provides a high level of treatment, making the most of sophisticated equipment and techniques and the experience of staff, which are only available in a university hospital.

Sales launch of cookies which prevent osteoporosis

Dr. Toshihide Mizoguchi, a Lecturer in the Division of Hard Tissue Research at the MDU Institute for Oral Science, in collaboration with Real Foods, a food processing company based in Tokyo, has developed cookies which are effective in preventing osteoporosis. Dr. Mizoguchi and Real Foods held a press conference in the Mae and Oku Hotakadake Room in the 30th Anniversary Building on Friday, February 16th.

Last lecture by Prof. Amari on complete denture

 On Friday, January 26th, Professor Mitsuharu Amari of the Prosthetic Dentistry 2 course, gave his last lecture in Room 601 of the main building. He retired at the end of March. Many fourth-year students, faculty and staff attended the lecture, titled "Final lecture on complete denture".

FD workshop of the graduate school

 The third FD workshop of the graduate school for this academic year was held in the Jonendake Room in the 30th Anniversary Building from 6pm on Thursday, January 25th. Twenty-nine lecturers of the graduate school participated. They were divided into three groups and spent a lot of time on discussion. The theme was the practical topic of how to deal with students wishing to change instructors. Participants discussed how the graduate school students and their instructors should act in this case. As a result of discussion, the participants agreed that maintaining good communications between the graduate school students and instructors is vital to continue with research.

Conclusion of a new agreement on mutual acknowledgement of units among 7 Univ.

 A ceremony to mark the conclusion of an agreement on mutual acknowledgement of units between universities in Nagano Prefecture was held in Tokyu Inn in Matsumoto on Monday, February 12th. Seven universities signed the agreement: Matsumoto Dental University (MDU), Shinshu University, The Science University of Tokyo in Suwa, Seisen University, Nagano College of Nursing, Nagano University and Matsumoto University.
In the academic year 2005, seven universities in Nagano Prefecture started a mutual acknowledgement system for units between departments of the universities to provide broad study opportunities to students through collaboration. The new agreement was concluded this year to cover graduate schools.

Freshmen welcoming training

 Two instructors from ANA Learning, Ms. Mariko Iwata and Ms. Chieko Sakabe, gave welcoming training to freshmen in two classrooms of the MDU School of Dental Hygiene on Tuesday, February 20th. Training was given to Classes A and B in the morning and to Classes C and D in the afternoon. This was the second training session: the first given to the fifth-year students in December.
The theme of the training was "medical service is heartfelt service". Ms. Iwata and Ms. Sakabe told the students that consideration and hospitality are the base of welcoming (communication, attitude, action and dealing with people).

9th meeting of the Dental Technology Research Association

 The 9th meeting of the Dental Technology Research Association was jointly held by MDU and Nagano Techno Foundation in the Jonendake Room in the 30th Anniversary Building on Tuesday, February 20th. MDU faculty and staff from twelve firms in Nagano Prefecture attended the meeting where the results of three-year activities were reported.

Ordinary entrance examinations (1st set) for students wanting to transfer

 MDU's ordinary entrance examinations (first set) were held at three locations (MDU, Tokyo, Osaka) on Friday, February 2nd. The number of new students to be accepted on the dental department's dental course is 113, of which 40 were selected by ordinary entrance examinations (first set). A total of 109 candidates sat the examinations, given at three locations, competing for the 40 places: a candidate to placement ratio of 2.7.
Screening based on Center examination results was held at MDU on Tuesday, February 13th. A total of 27 candidates applied for the screening for the 10 places on offer, which was also a candidate to placement ratio of 2.7. On the same day, examinations for students wanting to transfer were held. Eight students sat these.

1st meeting of the Sensory-Motor Integration Function of the TNRA

 The 1st meeting of the Sensory-Motor Integration Function of TNRA (the Trigeminal Nerve Research Association) was held in the Jonendake Room on the third floor of the 30th Anniversary Building on Monday, January 29th. The purpose of the association is to provide researchers, particularly graduate school students and young researchers, who conduct neuroscience research relating to sensory-motor function of the maxillofacial and oral areas, with opportunities to announce their research results. More than fifty people, including people from outside of MDU, attended the meeting at which intensive discussions were held.
